DescriptionTrifold identity card for Commercial Travellers (in German, English and French), No. 1784 for Alfred Hofbauer, with his b/w photograph. It is dated 27 September 1937 and indicates that Alfred is travelling on behalf of the firm "Stern & Strauss". Alfred escaped from Austria to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
