DescriptionSilver Etrog container in the shape of the etrog, to hold the fruit (yellow citron used by Jews during the festival of Sukkot). It is made of .800% silver as indicated by the hallmarks. Opening on a hinge, the top contains a plaque with the inscription (translated): ‘To Jacob Born in recognition of his services to an organization in Plauen, on the occasion of his silver wedding anniversary 11 August 1910’.
Jacob Born, who died in 1913, was the grandfather of the donor. His wife was murdered in Theresienstadt in 1942. After the donor's father's death in 1958, the object came into Martha Goldstein’s possession.
