Description
Examines the takeover of Jewish property and belongings in Eastern Galicia, the wartime 'Distrikt Galizien'. She argues that robbing the Jews in this district was different from what transpired in other districts. Both Germans, whether acting privately or on behalf of the state, and the Jews' Polish and Ukrainian neighbours plundered Jewish property, and this pillage was often connected to violence in the Jewish communities and ghettos. Jewish belongings and property made their way into the hands of local Christians, but extortion and reward for collaboration in the mass murder of Jews were the most common
