Description
This article deals with the intense controversy in the early 1950s between the Robert Menzies Government and the Jewish community over the question of German immigration. A heightening Cold War atmosphere and a national preoccupation with economic development nullified concerns over the morality of mass German immigration. This was the first time the Australian Jewish community had been threatened with sanctions for opposing government policy.
