Description
This paper focuses on a study of French Catholics who saved Jews during the Holocaust. It analyzes some taped interviews with rescuers, and seeks to determine their motivations. Given the ancient anti-Jewish tradition in Christianity and the ambivalent relationship of the French Catholic bishops to the Vichy Government, these "Righteous Among the Nations" present us with questions: How did they overcome Christian anti-Semitism? In what ways were they different from other Catholics? What lessons can be learned from their actions that may help us to overcome Christian anti-Semitism in the future?
