Motifs and stereotypes of animalization are prominent in the media coverage of the Dreyfus affair that lasted from 1894 until 1906. At the core of this political scandal was an accusation of treason against Captain Alfred Dreyfus, motivated by the profound antisemitism of French society at the time. Dreyfus was eventually declared
innocent. Jews were depicted in various animal forms - they regularly appeared as abject figures
