Description
Gitman analyzes Jewish resistance agianst the Axis powers and their Croatian Ustashi in the Independent State of Croatia which at that time included Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within four months the Ustashi government had implemented many of the policies that would destroy the Jews economically, culturally and physically. More than 1,600 Jews joined the partisans: some fought, others served as doctors, nurses, teachers. Jews who remained in the cities provided food and clothing for their impoverished communities, for Jews in camps, and for Jews on passing transports
