In the last few decades, the imperative of witnessing has exploded as a powerful secular norm, connecting what was a confined idiom of moral response to the Holocaust to a much larger set of political transformations. The cultural practice of 'bearing witness to atrocity' is one of the most disseminated outcomes of Holocaust memory.
