Comparative and competitive victimization in the post-Communist sphere

Discusses the equation in Eastern European countries in victimisation of the population while under communist rule and the victimisation suffered by Jews during the Holocaust. The collaboration of local populations is excused and equated with the Jews who embraced communism. However, although Jews constituted a disproportionate number of members of the communist party, the proportion of communists among the Jewish population was miniscule. It is also argued that the crimes perpetrated by the communists are not equaivalent to those perpetrated by the Nazis. If the crimes and guilt are similar than Israel deserves no special consideration and should be judged on the same basis as all other countries. This reasoning is used to justify antisemitism in former communist countries in Eastern Europe.
