Description

This article discusses how Germany came to terms with its past, focussing first on blaming Hitler and his small group of Nazis for the Holocaust, and only in the 1960s after the Nuremberg trials did the youth look to their parents with questions such as 'what did you do in the war'. The Lithuanian experience was completely different as they themselves became victims under Russian rule, and only since 1990/91 was open debate and discussion permitted.
