Description
The essay is a review of the play The Deputy in which the playright Hochhuth argues that Pius XII, Christ's deputy on earth was well informed of the Nazi extermination of the Jews and that by a forthright condemnation he could have terminated the genocide, but instead remained silent for reasons of state, among which was concern for various Catholic investments in various countries imperilled by the war.
