DescripciónPhotographs taken on Grete’s last day at home before her departure to England. Shown are her grandmother Gisela Ostericher (born Reiner), her great grandmother Auguste Reiner, aunt Liesl and uncle Josef and her parents Erna and Isidor Pollak.
According to the handwritten note below her father’s head is shaved as a result of him being incarcerated in Dachau concentration camp. In November 1938, only a couple of days after Kristallnacht, her father went outside to buy some cigarettes when he was arrested by the police and later deported to Dachau. He had just been released.
Greta successfully emigrated to the United Kingdom in January 1939 and worked as a governess, a helper, and later as a nurse until the war ended.
