DescripciónInstituted on 14 March 1985, the Auschwitz Cross was issued by the Polish government and awarded to honour survivors of Nazi German concentration camps, including but not limited to Auschwitz. The red enameled triangle with the letter P symbolises Polish nationals imprisoned in the camps.
This medal takes the form of a cross, with the obverse depicting barbed wire and camp poles. The letter P stands in an inverted red triangle in the middle. The year 1939 is shown on the left arm, 1945 on the right. Inscribed on the reverse is “RP / WIEŹIOM / HITLEROWSKICH / OBOZÓW KONCENTRACYJNYCH” translating to the “People’s Republic of Poland to prisoners of Nazi concentration camps”. The “RP” indicates the medals circulation as post- 1989. The medal ribbon has vertical blue and white strips.
It is not known to whom this medal belongs as there is no accompanying provenance.
