DescripciónMetal Channukah menorah / candelabrum of simple design used in Theresienstadt by Rosalie Salm (nee Levy) and Ernst Salm during the three years they spent incarcerated in the camp. The central rod is mounted on a metal base and surmounted by a Star of David. There is a row of eight candle sockets. The shamash is inserted in the central rod.
The Salms were from Schleich near Leiwen in the Trier area. It is not known whether the menorah was produced in Theresienstadt, though it likely was. Ernst Salm could not have made it, as he was blinded in the trenches while serving in the German Army in World War I. Ernst died in 1949 and Rosalie died in 1964. They are both buried in the Jewish cemetery at Trier.
