DescripciónNewspaper in German from Shanghai, "Shanghai Jewish Chronicle", 10th May 1940. Collected by Edgar and Irene Boehm, Jewish refugees in Shanghai from 1939 until 1946 when they migrated to Australia.
Written before Japanese occupation, on this single page there are comments on the war in Europe but proceedings in the British Parliament, no reference to Japanese taking sides in the conflict, the German invasion of Norway. The book review of Schalom Asch continues. Personal family notices include names such as Steiner, Hirsch, Rosenblatt, Tempelberg as one would expect amongst Jewish immigrants. Religious events in the synagogues are shown and the European Jewish Artist Society advertises an entertainment evening in cozy surroundings.
