DescripciónThis is a United States official photograph titled ‘German Civilians See Nazi Camp Horror’.
The photo depicts a group of people who are identified by the photo's caption as being German civilians, as well as men wearing uniforms that identify them as being from the United States Third Army M.P’s. The crowd of people surround a truck which contains a large pile of naked human corpses. These were the bodies of prisoners who had died at the Buchenwald Concentration camp.
There is a carbon-copy caption attached on to the back of the image which reads:

‘Issued O.W.I. London through P.N.A.
(Picture issued April 1945)
GERMAN CIVILIANS SEE NAZI CAMP HORROR
German civilians of Weimar witness a truckload of dead prisoners at camp Buchenwald, Nazi horror mill. They were forced by the United States Third Army M.P’s to see the evidence of atrocities at the camp.”
This image is a collection of nine photographs which were taken at the time of the liberation of the Buchenwald and Bergen -Belsen Concentration Camp. They are historically significant as they graphically depict the atrocities that took place in these concentration camps and in this instance how the Allied forces demonstrated evidence of this to the German civilian population.
