This intimate moment was captured by Mark Tedeschi for the Sydney Jewish Museum’s exhibition ‘Courage and Survival’ in 1992. Bolek and Lola Feiler survived the Pilica Aktion (round-up for deportation), and sought shelter with the Chucherko family in the village of Nowa Gora, Chrzanow district, Poland. The Chucherko's gave them refuge for two years. In 1944 Lola gave birth while in hiding. A day after his birth, the baby was taken by a local priest and left on the doorstep of a couple in the next village where he was taken in and raised. After the war, Bolek and Lola were reunited with their son, and in 1951 the family moved to Australia. In 1983, the members of the Chucherko family were recognised by Yad Vashem as Righteous Among the Nations.
