Ernst was born 08 June 1874, in Prague. He and his wife, Stephanie (nee Strakosch), migrated from German-occupied Austria to Australia in 1939, before the start of WWII. Ernst was president of B'nai B'rith in Vienna and was instrumental in establishing it in Australia.
