Rabbi Colonel Dr Alfred Fabian was born in Breslau, Germany, in 1910 and came to Australia in 1939. Prominent in a variety of Jewish community affairs, Fabian served as rabbi in Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney, was a chaplain to the Australian forces from 1953 and succeeded Rabbi Danglow as the Senior Chaplain to the Australian Forces following the latter's death in May 1962. Fabian died in 1989.
