TítuloKindergarten bag used by Camille Fox
DescripciónWoven childrens basket used by Camille Fox as her kindergarten bag for school whilst in Alexandria, Egypt in 1952-1953.
Camille was 6 years old when her and her family were expelled from Alexandria, Egypt in 1954. The family left via the south of France and into Israel before arriving in Sydney in May 1960.
She has childhood memories of a charmed life in Egypt, with lavish children’s birthday parties, visiting her grandfather at his textile store in Anfushi, men smoking the shisha, her grandmother sipping sweet black coffee in fine English porcelain cups and nibbling cakes in Alexandria’s finest tea rooms. As an artist, Camille has infused these memories and times into her artworks representing life for Jewish populations in Egypt.
