Freda Myra Cohen was born in 1934 and raised in Bondi. She studied as a dressmaker and worked under various Sydney based fashion houses including John J Hilton. She married Stephen Glass in 1957 and they established Stephen Glass Designs in 1959.
Freda designed for the business, inspired by European high-end clothing at affordable prices. Her designs won awards with the Australian Wool Board in the 1960s and their clothing was stoked at Mark Foy’s, Myer and Farmers. The business continued until the late 1970s before closing.
