The author presents the attempts at rehabilitation of the Jewish communities in Western Europe in the aftermath of the Holocaust. Criticizing the tendency to concentrate almost exclusively on the Jews of the United States and Israel, he outlines the tensions characterizing the recovery process of West European communties that refused to adopt the model of American Jewish communities.
