Descripción
A discussion of the linguistic problems involved in translating into English the German poems of Paul Celan (1920-1949), a Holocaust survivor who ultimately committed suicide in Paris. The discussion is mostly technical, raising among others questions of metre and rhyme; but it also considers meaning, the poems' significance as products of a wounded post-Holocaust sensibility.
