Descripción

The Jewish displaced persons emerged from the Holocaust to form a vibrant, active and independent community that played a prominent role in diplomatic negotiations leading to the creation of the state of Israel. This chapter examines the situation confronting Jewish survivors in the immediate aftermath of the war in Europe, and the nature of Jewish responses to catastrophe. They engaged in mourning for lives lost and charted a course for the Jewish future
