The teaching of the history of the Holocaust has a prominent place in the Swedish history syllabus. There are high expectations on the teaching of this topic as a cure against racism, prejudice and intolerance in contemporary society. Many Swedish schools travel to Holocaust related memorial sites especially Auschwitz
