Rae was born in Vilna n 1927. Vilna was occupied on 24 June 1941 and on 1 September 1941, 8000 Jews were evacuated, and a ghetto was established in Ponar, and from there she was sent to Vaivara, a concentration camp in Estonia, and eventually to Bergen-Belsen. She survived and met up with her sister whom she had not seen for 5 years.
