Memorial books as a source for research into the history of Jewish communities in Europe

This survey discusses the memorial books of a special type, namely those prepared by editors and writers who were not professionals, but members of emigrant organisations in Israel and the diaspora.The vast majority of memorial books are dedicated to communities of East European Jewry. The topics discussed deal with the Holocaust years and the period after it.
