The revisionists fault Cardinal Pacelli for having negotiated the 1933 concordat with Germany. They claim that it legitimised the regime and destroyed the Catholic Center Party. The revisionist interpretation displays ignorance of the literature regarding Hitler's rise to power. The Catholic Church was prohibited under a directive ordering the suppression of certain religious societies. Thousands of clergymen were imprisoned in Dachau where many died
