The new left until the mid 6os did not greatly concern itself with the State of Israel. The civil rights movement, the cold war and many other problems were of greater importance. The 1967 war led to a polarization: Jews including radicals, overwhemingly supported Israel, while Blacks identified with the Palestinians.
