DescriptionPostcard (in German) marked "Printed Matter" from Hilsford (special fund for victims of political persecution) posted 31 October 1956 from Vienna, Austria, to Alfred Hofbauer of Point Piper, Sydney. It acknowledges the receipt of Alfred's application for assistance and assigns him the number 09344. Alfred was born in 1913 in Vienna and escaped from Austria to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
