TitelTrauer Album
BeschreibungMourning book for Siegmund Boehm. The Yahrzeit is the anniversary of death, calculated using the Jewish calendar. Yahrzeit changes every year, and it is noted in the trauer album. It is an important aspect of the mourning process.
Siegmund Boehm was born in 1869 in Berlin, Germany. He was married to Meta Boehm (nee Bendix) and had two children: Edgar and Alice. Siegmund owned a successful department store in Barth, Germany, and was an important business figure in the regional centre. In 1935, Siegmund was diagnosed with cancer, and spent his last year in the spa town of Carlsbad, Czechoslovakia. In 1936, Siegmund died, and his widow Meta moved back to Berlin.
Yahrzheit is a Yiddish word meaning anniversary of a death. It is the yearly anniversary of a loved one’s death (traditionally the anniversary of the Hebrew date, not the Gregorian date). Jews observe yahrzeit at home by lighting a special long-burning candle in memory of the deceased.
