Beschreibung(a) This copper medallion with bronze colour from the Museum for Jewish Refugees in Shanghai (former Ohel Moshe Synagogue) is number 40 of 2000 produced, featuring a depiction of the main building of the Jewish Refugees Memorial Hall of Shanghai and a portrait of Moshe (Moses), based on the Italian artist Michelangelo. The medallion was given to the father-in-law of the donor, Tom Cha, who was a government officer in Shanghai. It commemorates 30,000 refugees fleeing the Nazi persecution who found a safe haven in Shanghai.
(b) Handsome box with English wording “The Museum for Jewish Refugees in Shanghai (former Ohel Moshe Synagogue) “, “Copper Medallion”, on the upper part, and a printed image of the medallion and Chinese lettering on the bottom. The interior is lined with red velvet.
(c) The Certificate of Authenticity (little brochure)in English and Chinese gives a history of the Synagogue and the rationale for the medallion. It also features a copy of the “Words Written By The Former Israel Prime Minister Rabin In His Visit To Shanghai Ohel Moshe Synagogue in October 14, 1993”
(d) This is the sleeve for the cardboard box holding the medallion. In black print on a pink background “THE MUSEUM FOR JEWISH REFUGEES IN SHANGHAI (FORMER OHEL MOSHE SYNAGOGUE). Under the Chinese wording (black) the words, in pink, penned by PM Rabin on his visit to the Ohel Moshe Synagogue on October 14, 1993.
