TitelZelda Farbenblum 1991 Testimony
BeschreibungTestimony of Zelda Farbenblum recorded in 1991 as part of the development of the Sydney Jewish Museum. The testimony was recorded across two DigiBeta tapes.
Zelda was originally from a village in Czechoslovakia. Her family was forced from their home in 1940 and after moving from place to place they returned only to be put into a ghetto the following year. From the ghetto Zelda and her family were transported to Auschwitz.
Zelda’s articulates aspects of her incarceration in Auschwitz quite well. Her retelling of advice she received upon arrival to not think and feel anything is interesting, particularly considering later on in the testimony she describes what it is like to have no thoughts and feelings. Another interesting aspect is she talks about the women recipe sharing.
Zelda was transferred to a slave labour camp where she was liberated by the Americans. She speaks about waking up to find all the guards had gone and describes what that day was like as well as the liberators (there were a lot of Jews in that unit).
