BeschreibungLetter dated 11 January 1938 sent to Jurgen Steuerwald in England, from his mother living in Hannover. She writes that she was delighted to receive his phone call and regrets it was so short. She comments that to be a football champion is not really the right profession for Jurgen and she asks how his English is progressing. She mentions how Gerhard (Jurgen's brother) is going in Sydney. Jurgen should thank Miss Hunt for her friendship. Fraulein Meyer is visiting today. Things are very quiet at the moment.
This letter forms part of a collection of 40 letters and postcards dating from the 1930’s that were sent to Jurgen Steuerwald in England, from his mother, living in Germany and his brother Gerhard, living in Australia. The contrast between the descriptions of life in Australia and England where the two brothers live in safety, and of the fear and danger borne by their mother living in Germany provide a striking contrast.
