BeschreibungYartzeit candle holder or Memorial Candle crafted by Laura Cowan, an Israeli artist using coloured anodised aluminium.
Following burial, the seven-day period of intense mourning, shiv‘ah, is observed in the home. During this time, friends and relatives visit the mourners to give comfort. It is also customary to give tzedaqah (charity) to honour the deceased.
For the next thirty days of shloshim less stringent mourning rituals apply and mourners may resume work. However, the daily recitation of the qaddish prayer must be observed for another eleven months. Qaddish is recited every year on the yartzeit, the anniversary of the loved one’s death.
