BeschreibungMarconi Radio Telegraph Company of Egypt S.A.E. Eastern Telegraph Company Ltd. Telegram sent to Pte. Alfred Hofbauer, British North Africa Forces by Ben Gelbart on 19 April 1944 (no further information known about Ben Gelbart). It was received by Hofbauer, in Cairo, on 21 April 1944. The text: "Many thanks for letter letters sent Happy Anniversary". Occasion unknown, possibly Hofbauer's birthday, 28 April. Alfred Hofbauer was born in 1913 in Vienna and found refuge in France c. 1938. He escaped to Switzerland c. 1939, joined the French Foreign Legion 1939/1940, then the Pioneer Corps, British Army in 1943. He fought in North Africa and Italy in World War II and came to Australia in 1946.
