The donor’s Grandfather was President of the Synagogue. In 1938, the family left Germany. To ensure the safety of the Synagogue items, the donor’s uncle Max Hammersmidt sent them to his brother in Australia. Donated by Charlotte Zettel
The money box for charity is made out of metal with a handle, and a slot on top and a clip to secure the lid. Pasted on the front, on paper is an inscription in Hebrew, translated: "For charity in the name of Rabbi Meir, Master (or Lord) or Miracles". This box dates from the 19th or 20th c. It reflects both the cultural and religious life of the Jewish community in a small town in pre WWII Germany.
