Victor M. Smith, Jewish British, joined the British Army as a private in 1939. His humane treatment of German P.O.W.s in Tobruk brought him thanks and many letters from the P.O.W.s. V.M. Smith was later in Holland with the British 21 Army Group. He emigrated to Australia, died in 1968.
