Information on the different national groups of prisoners in Neuengamme concentration camp

Before the outbreak of the war in September 1939, the prisoners at Neuengamme concentration camp were almost exclusively German. When the war began most of the people deported had been arrested as resistance fighters or hostages in the occupied countries of Europe. A list of the countries of origin of the prisoners is given.
