BeskrivelseAward of Merit from the NSW Board of Jewish Education to Erwin Hayman. Erwin was awarded the Abigail Samuels Memorial Prize 1941, for his excellent studies at the Central Synagogue. The award is signed by Abraham Rothfield who was Headmaster of the Board of Jewish Education since 1924. There was a ceremony held in the Maccabean Hall in December 1941 to present the awards.
Erwin Hayman (previously Heimann) was born in 1928 is Posen, Poland, and later lived in Berlin. In 1938 when he was 10 years old, Erwin immigrated to Sydney with his parents Arthur and Clara and his sister Johanna, arriving on 12 September. Erwin was educated in Hebrew through the NSW board of Jewish Education’s Central Synagogue Centre. He received many merit awards for his studies and was very active in the Jewish community throughout his life.
