Beskrivelse
How should Holocaust history be taught in US colleges? The author identifies four essentials: a proper approach; placement in an historical context; correct terminology; and an emphasis on the specificity and uniqueness of the relevant events. There are also dangers, notably trivialisation of the theme and desensitisation of students through repetition. The suggested solution is to combine humility with responsibility, scholarly objectivity with moral sensitivity and humanity. To preserve its memory, the Holocaust must be incorporated into the general framework of the teaching of history.
