Explains how those who left prior to the war were also victims. The trauma and pain of being forced to leave their families behind and to leave communities in which Jews lived for hundreds of years - such as Austria and Germany. Many of them felt hesitant to speak about their suffering as minimal when compared to the agony suffered by those in the camps.
