He arrived in Shanghai on 9 January 1939. He was interned from 18 May 1943 until 15 August 1945. He arrived in Australia on 28 January 1947 on the Hwa Lien. A landing permit indicates Fritz Schnitzer’s permission to immigrate to Australia via his uncle, Rudolph John Carver, who is the guarantor on the document in 1946. He anglicised his name, with Carver being English for Schnitzer.
