Ten-year-old Katalin Lamberger wrote to the editor of “Az Est“, and he responded with an open letter: “Dear Katalin Lamberger, you wrote that your heart aches as you have no money to assist the invalids, the widows and orphans of our fallen heroes. This is because your father, an invalid tradesman with no income, can’t give you any. Yet, in following your heart, you have offered to have your well-groomed, chestnut brown 70cm long hair cut off and sold at an open auction for the benefit of the Szurmay Fund. You regard this as your patriotic duty.
