العنوانJewish War Memorial Building Charter
الوصفThis Charter marks the opening of the Jewish War Memorial Building, Darlinghurst Road, by Sir John Monash on 11 November 1923 - the Armistice Day. This document, hand-written and illuminated, stands as testimony to the Jewish War Effort in the Great War (WWI). The building of the Jewish War Memorial Building was a significant milestone in the cultural life of Sydney's Jewish community.
The building was erected by the Jewish residents of Sydney as a memorial to the "sacred and honored memory of those brave men of the Jewish Faith who freely gave their lives" in WWI. The charter is written in black modern interpretation of the "Old English" (Gothic font) and illuminated with a distinctive presentation of Australian flora and Jewish symbols, in a style popular at the turn of the century. The Charter is signed by Sir John Monash and 14 others representatives of the Jewish community.(see Notes)
