Smith in appreciation of his kind treatment of Prisoner's of War. Victor M. Smith, Jewish, joined the British Army as a Private in 1939 and left the army in 1948 as a Lt. Colonel. His humane treatment of German P.O.W.s in Tobruk brought him thanks and many letters from the P.O.W.s. V.M. Smith was later in Holland with the British 21 Army Group.
