This article presents fragments from the diary of Mondle Emanuel Phillips (1841-1865), a NSW Jewish boy who worked as a solicitor's clerk and died at 24. As one of the first generation of Australian-born Jews, Phillips and his diary provide nteresting facts and observations about Jewish 19th century life.
