Details the post-war instigation of the Central Historical Commission in Poland and associated historical commissions in fourteen countries. These commissions believed Holocaust survivors had a moral imperative and an obligation to bear witness and testify to their experiences under the Nazis. 18,000 testimonies and 8,000 questionnaires were completed by survivors by the end of the 1950s
