This article explores the tragic fate of more than 70,000 Jews in Latvia before and during the Second World War. Discusses the poor treatment of Jews by their initial Russian occupiers and local Latvians, and the 'Final Solution' program introduced by the Germans after their invasion of Latvia in 1941. The subsequent 'Latvian' and 'German' ghetttos established by the Nazis ,and the fate of their Jewish occupants, are discussed in detail.
