The Halutz in Hungary had originally acted as a Zionist youth group to prepare its members for emigration to Palestine. With the coming of fascism, however, the organization used resources inside and outside the country in assuming a resistance role and performing a number of services: secretly moving children out of Hungary, sheltering Jews within the country, manufacturing bogus identity cards, etc. In creating this book, Cohen interviewed people who were helped as well as those who performed rescues
